What registrants see
Registrants never make an account or a password. They fill in your form, get a confirmation email with a private link, and that link opens their registration, where they can see where it stands and do what you allow: fix their details, hand their spot to someone else, finish a teammate's part or pay what's left.
What registrants get
- Your form, at its public link. They register, and pay if the form takes payments.
- A confirmation email with everything they entered, a receipt, and a View your registration button.
- Their registration page: where it stands (Completed!, Incomplete or Cancelled), their answers and payments, and what they can do next.
- plantains.app/my: every registration they have, with any organizer on Plantains, after signing in with a code sent to their email.
Everything else in this chapter is optional, and you choose it per form in its Settings → Registrant changes (edits and transfers) and in the builder (which answers they may change, and whether teammates finish their own part).
Registering
Your form's page shows your account's name, the form's name and the form. While it isn't open, it shows your message instead (not open yet, closed or full), and an access code box if the form asks for one. If you have discount codes, a Coupon Code box sits above the total. When the form takes card payments, the button reads Pay and register; otherwise it's your own button text (the builder's Form panel: click empty canvas, then Submit button).
Once they're in, they see your Message after submitting (also in the Form panel), their Registration ID and the total. If something is still to be done, like a teammate's waiver, a Still to do box says what, and that their registration isn't ready until it's done.
Thanks! See you at the start line.

Still to do
Ben Rivera will finish their part (their details and waiver) and pay their $150.00 share.
Your registration is in, but it isn't ready until this is done. It's also in your confirmation email.
- Your Message after submitting (the Form panel in the builder).
- Their Registration ID: the code you and they use to look it up.
- Still to do: only when something is left, like a teammate's part. It's also in the confirmation email.
The confirmation email
The person registering gets it right away, from your account's name: Registration K7Q2MX confirmed: Wente 8 Hour 2027. It's their record of the registration:
You're registered for Wente 8 Hour 2027
Thanks! Bike Monkey received your registration. Keep this email as your record: Bike Monkey can look it up by its registration ID.

From that page you can update your details or transfer your entry to someone else. The link is private to you.

- The key facts: the registration ID, when, who registered, and the total (or what's paid and what's outstanding).
- Still to do: anything left, like a teammate's part or waiver.
- The receipt, as their page shows it: who paid what, and each teammate's share still to pay.
- View your registration: their private link. Under it, what they can do there (update their details, transfer their entry), when you allow it.
- Replies go to your contact email.
- Every answer is in it, section by section (signatures aren't, only that a waiver was signed).
- The private link works without signing in. Anyone with it can see and change the registration, so it's for the person registering only. Later emails (a refund, a teammate who finished) link to the registration's lasting page instead, which asks them to sign in.
- Lost it? Open the registration in Submissions and send the confirmation again. It comes with a new private link, and the old one stops working. It's also how to tell people about edits or transfers you switched on after they registered.
Their registration page
The View your registration button opens it. At the top, a badge says where the registration stands. Under it come your account's and form's names, anything waiting on them (a teammate, a waiver, a pending email change), then the registration itself: its ID, the total and what's outstanding, Pay now and Edit your details when they apply, every answer, and the payment. At the bottom, Can't make it? lists the spots they can transfer, when transfers are open.

Team total $326.11 · Outstanding amount due $150.00
- Where it stands, right now: here, Incomplete, with what's left.
- Still to do: a teammate who hasn't finished. The person registering can send the link again, change the email or finish it themselves.
- Still to pay: by card from here, when the form takes payments.
- Edit your details: while you allow edits (and until the deadline you set).
A teammate or someone who took a spot sees Your spot in registration K7Q2MX: their own section, not the others' details or the payments. An archived registration can be seen but not changed.
Completed, Incomplete or Cancelled
The badge is worked out again each time the page opens, so a link from an old email always shows what's true now, not what the email said then. It describes the whole registration, solo or team, whoever is looking.
- Completed! Nothing is left.
- Incomplete, with what's left: a teammate who hasn't finished their part, a waiver to sign (or sign again), money still owed, or a payment that hasn't gone through yet (a bank payment can take a few days).
- Cancelled: you cancelled it. It points them to you for questions.
Signing in to see all their registrations
At plantains.app/my, registrants enter their email and click Email me a code. A 6-digit code arrives (it works for 10 minutes), and they see every registration they have, with any organizer on Plantains: the event, its ID and date, the people in it, Cancelled or Archived when it is, and You can update your details until… while edits are open. Each one opens its registration page.
The list has:
- registrations made with that email (the form's primary email);
- spots someone transferred to them;
- teammates' spots, when the person registering ticked Let them sign in later to see their spot (they see their own details and waiver, not the rest of the registration or its payments).
A link from a later email (a refund, a teammate finishing their part) opens their registration once they've signed in. If the browser is already signed in with a different email, the page says the registration was made with another email, and Sign in with that email signs them out to sign in with the right one.
Editing their own details
People move, change phone numbers and make typos. Letting them fix those themselves saves you the emails. It's off until you switch it on, and it takes effect right away (no need to publish).
- Open the form's Settings tab and find Registrant changes.
- Tick Registrants can edit their answers.
- Optionally set Until, a deadline in the form's time zone (empty means no deadline: until you switch it off).
- Choose what a price difference does (below), and click Save.
Which answers they can change is set field by field in the builder: select a field and tick Registrant can edit. Email, phone, address and emergency contact are editable by default. Everything else starts locked. A Name field says Registrant can fix typos instead (small corrections only: a different person is a transfer). Signed waivers and hidden values can never be changed by registrants.
Price differences when registrants make changes:
Not online
A change that would change the price can't be saved online. Registrants contact you.
Upgrades only
Registrants pay for upgrades by card when they save (adding a T-shirt, a pricier category). Downgrades can't be made online.
Upgrades and downgrades
Upgrades are paid by card. Downgrades are free and final: they see "No extra cost", never a lower price, and nothing is refunded (you can still refund by hand).
With upgrades allowed, the editor shows what the change costs, and the button becomes Pay $25.00 and save: they pay by card and the change saves once it's paid. If the form's payments are off, the change saves and the difference shows as outstanding until it's paid.
- People can't be added or removed online. A change that would add or drop a participant (like Duo to Solo) asks them to contact you.
- After saving, they get a Changes saved email, the account Owner gets a Registration … changed email, and the change is in the registration's history in Submissions.
- A birthdate change that crosses 18 on event day means that waiver is signed again (by the participant or a parent or guardian).
Changing the email a registration belongs to
The primary email decides who the registration belongs to, so a change to it isn't saved like other answers (a typo could hand it to a stranger). When they change it, they're asked Change the email this registration belongs to? If they say yes:
- The new address gets a Confirm your email link (it works for 7 days). The old address is told, and can cancel it.
- Nothing moves until the link is clicked. Their page shows the pending change, with Cancel the change.
- Once confirmed, only the new address can sign in and manage the registration.
Transfers
When someone can't make it, they can hand their spot to someone else, who confirms their own details and signs their own waiver. Transfers work on participants, so each person's section has to be marked One participant (see Participants).
- In the form's Settings → Registrant changes, tick Registrants can transfer their entry.
- Optionally set Until (a deadline) and a Transfer fee (up to $100). The new person pays the fee by card when they accept. It's yours, not part of the registration's total, and it needs the form's payments on.
- Click Save.
Then, on their registration page, under Can't make it?:
Can't make it?
Transfer a spot to someone else until Oct 30, 2026, 11:59 PM. They get an email, confirm their own details and sign the waiver, and pay the $15.00 transfer fee by card; nothing changes until they accept.
Rider 1 · Ana Rivera
Transfer…Also hand over the whole registration They become its manager instead of you, including the other participants. Leave this off to stay on as manager (e.g. team captain).
Send invitation
- Transfer… on the spot to hand over.
- The new person's name and email.
- Only the person registering sees this: hand over the whole registration too, so the new person manages it instead of them.
- The new person gets an email (… is transferring an entry to you) and accepts on their own page: Accept the transfer, or Pay $15.00 and accept with a fee.
- Nothing changes until they accept. The invitation lasts until your deadline, and at most 14 days. Until then the spot shows who it's waiting for, with Cancel transfer.
- Who can start one: the person registering, for any spot, and someone who took a spot, for their own. Only the person registering can hand over the whole registration. When it's handed over, the new person gets their own private link, and the old one stops working.
- You can always start one yourself from the registration in Submissions, free, even after registrants' transfers close.
Teammates finishing their part
When the person registering ticks They'll finish their own part on a teammate's section (set up as in Teammates finish their own part), the teammate gets an email, Finish your registration, with a Finish my registration button. On their page they:
- see what the person registering already gave (locked);
- add their own details, and anything priced in their section, like a T-shirt;
- sign their waiver;
- pay their share: their part of the team entry plus what they picked, with Pay $150.00 and finish. If the form doesn't take card payments, they see their share and you tell them how to pay.
Until every teammate finishes, the registration is marked Waiting for teammates, and the person registering's page shows them under Still to do, with three ways to follow up:
- Send the link again.
- Change their email, which sends the link to the new address.
- Finish it myself: they fill in the teammate's details and pay their share. The teammate's link stops working, and they're told. Their waiver stays theirs: once the spot is finished, they're emailed a link to sign it.
When a teammate finishes, they get You're all set, and the person registering is told they finished. Nothing expires on its own.
Waivers to sign again
A waiver can be waiting on someone: a teammate who signs their own (the person registering can't sign for them), a birthdate change that crosses 18 on event day (it's signed again), or a whole registration handed to someone new (they sign for themselves). The person who signs gets a Please sign the waiver email with a private link, and the registration page says who it's waiting for. Where you allow it, it can also be signed in person at check-in. More in Waivers.
Paying what's left
When the person registering owes something (a balance, an upgrade you charged later), their page shows $150.00 still to pay with Pay $150.00 now, by card when the form takes payments. Otherwise it says you'll tell them how to pay. You can also email a pay link from the registration in Submissions: they get Payment due with a Pay $150.00 button, and a Payment received receipt afterwards, saying what's still outstanding. More in Payments and refunds.
When registrants reply
Every email Plantains sends registrants for you (confirmations, receipts, waivers, transfers, teammates) comes from your account's name, and ends with Sent by Plantains on behalf of your account. Their replies go to your Contact email for registrants, which each email shows.
- Open Settings (General).
- Under Contact email for registrants, enter the address you want replies at (say, your race inbox).
- Save. Left empty, replies go to the account Owner's email.
